There is an alternative way to have your wood floors professionally redone. This is if you find yourself in a home with wood floors that have seen better days. You can consider creating your own masterpiece by painting your wood floors instead of replacing it. You will learn how to paint wood floors down below.

You need to prepare the tools and materials, such as fine-grit sandpaper, palm sander, detergent, bleach, floor primer, floor paint, paint brushes, rollers, painting poles, and floor polyurethane sealer.
First, you can prepare the wood floor with a light sanding. You should use sandpaper or a palm sander to lightly go over the finish so that the floor will accept the paint. Or you could also use a fine-grit paper for this process.

Second, you can use detergent and water to clean the whole floor. You should remove all dirt, dust and oil. And if you spot mold or mildew, you need to get rid of it with bleach and water solution, usually three-parts water to one-part bleach. Then you can rinse the floor.
Third, you can purchase a primer specifically designed for wood floors. And then choose your paint. You need to know that certain paint is made just for floors. So, if you're looking for a satin finish, you should use latex floor paint and if you want a semi-gloss or gloss finish, you can use alkyd, polyurethane or latex floor paint.

Fourth, you can start painting the floor using brush by starting at the outer edges of the floor and cut in. you can then use roller attached to a painting pole to fill in the center of the floor. Don’t forget to apply coat in several times until you get the look you want.
Last, you can then seal the floor using 2 to 3 coats of polyurethane sealer made for floors to keep the floor in good condition for at least 3 to 5 years. You should then let the floor set for 2 days before applying the sealer.
